Description
Malossi intake manifold 28/30mm for Vespa PX T5 INLET COLLETTORS The intake manifold is the access corridor for the air-fuel mixture into the engine through the door formed by the reed valve. The total efficiency of an engine is calculated as the product of various partial efficiencies, which are - volumetric efficiency - thermodynamic efficiency - mechanical efficiency Volumetric efficiency indicates the ratio between the amount by volume of mixture that can be fed into the combustion chamber and the engine's displacement. One of the main factors influencing volumetric efficiency is the friction loss that the incoming fluid (air-fuel mixture) encounters from the air filter to the combustion chamber. Therefore, one of the components that significantly influences this loss is the intake manifold, as all the incoming mixture must pass through it with the least possible loss, which is why it is essential to avoid sharp sections and sharp edges along the path of the mixture. Another function of the intake manifold is to act as an accumulation lung for the fresh charge, as the column of mixture travelling at a certain speed takes a certain amount of time to stop when the reed valve closes and so the mixture is accumulated in the manifold, compressing against the reeds. This is why each manifold has its own well-defined speed range within which it expresses maximum efficiency (tuned manifold). In addition, the manifold performs the task of supporting the carburettor by connecting it to the crankcase or cylinder, so it also has the task, if required, of damping the vibrations transmitted from the crankcase to the carburettor, preventing the phenomenon of petrol and air emulsifying in the carburettor bowl. Therefore this apparently simple component requires considerable study in order to fully exploit all its qualities, a result that the Malossi technicians have perfectly achieved. On the strength of its decades of experience in engine fuel systems, Malossi has created a new line of rubber and aluminium alloy manifolds for new generation scooters, tested and developed by the Malossi experience department, both on the road and on race circuits. In particular, Malossi rubber manifolds feature a composite structure in that they are built starting from an aluminium insert that is incorporated in a special plastic material that is impervious to oils and petrol, thus guaranteeing considerable rigidity of the base fixing to the crankcase and good elasticity of the manifold body.
