Polini lamellar crankcase with electronic ignition for Ciao mopeds

Polini is developing a new lamellar engine crankcase to house 3 or 4 cylinder studs. Big news from Polini, which adds the Polini For Race reed engine casing for Piaggio Ciao and Si to its already extensive catalogue. In keeping with Polini's DNA, the design and production aim to increase performance, especially when it comes to reed engines, which have limitations due to their original housing. The Ciao's intake is very limited and only carburettors with a maximum diameter of 15 mm can be fitted: with the new Polini For Race reed engine cover, carburettors up to 21 mm can be fitted with adequate flow, allowing for better performance and more punch from the engine. This is a die-cast aluminium crankcase, designed for mounting on Piaggio Si and Ciao models. On both models, the pedals must be removed. While no modification to the engine housing is required on the Si, on the Ciao it is necessary to slightly widen the original opening in the frame. The new Polini For Race lamellar engine casing for Piaggio Ciao and Si can accommodate both 3- and 4-stud cylinders, but Polini recommends the use of 4-stud cylinders. The new engine casing can be fitted with the original electronic ignition, but we recommend using the Polini ignition and solid-shaft crankshafts. The reed valve has 4 petals and is made of carbon, while the manifold is made of rubber and fits both Polini CP and Dell'orto PHBG carburettors.
