The most suitable timing for best performance and reliability are: Secondary transfer ports: 120° Exhaust: 178° Clearance/Squish: 1.3 mm Compression ratio: 10.9:1 To achieve these phases, a gasket/base plate of 1.25/1.3 mm at the base of the cylinder is generally sufficient. Lowering the transfer port/squish to 1 mm (approximately) to increase low-end torque is possible, but requires additional attention to the ignition timing (24° if variable ignition) and carburetion (richer in partial throttle).
